6 Oils that Do (Almost) Everything

Oct 11th, 2019 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

When it comes to using one product to complete multiple tasks on our conquer-the-world list, we count on a few essential oils. Like a Swiss Army Knife, these oils—Lemon essential oilThieves® essential oil blend, Peppermint essential oil, Cedarwood essential oil, Frankincense essential oil, and Lavender essential oil—have an application that’s right for the situation at hand.

LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL

Naturally occurring constituent: d-limonene

Besides smelling amazing, Lemon essential oil is also a workhorse around the house. It’s useful in your toiletries bag, too, since it may improve the healthy appearance and sheen of hair and may reduce the appearance of blemishes.*

Once Lemon Vitality is in your kitchen, you’ll be reaching for it on the regular for its zesty taste.

Use Lemon essential oil:

  • To eliminate odors. Diffuse this refreshing and energizing scent anywhere musty smells tend to arise. Put 2–3 drops on a cotton ball and place at the bottom of the diaper or garbage pail to keep things fresh.
  • To freshen surfaces. Add to natural household cleaners before wiping down dirty surfaces.
  • In your beauty routine. Add to skin care products to reduce the appearance of blemishes or add to conditioner or DIY hair masks to bring out hair’s natural shine.

Use Lemon Vitality:

  • In the kitchen. Create custom dressings or marinades with a few drops or substitute 1 drop of Lemon Vitality for 1 teaspoon of lemon juice in your baking.
  • As a supplement. Add 1–2 drops to a vegetarian gel capsule and take as needed.
  • On the go. Before you head out, add 2–3 drops of Lemon Vitality to your glass water bottle.

THIEVES ESSENTIAL OIL

Naturally occurring constituents: limonene, eucalyptol

We love our proprietary Thieves blend so much that we put it in everything (almost). But really, you’ll come to associate Thieves’ spicy, warm scent with its versatility and many uses.

Thieves Vitality makes a great supplement. When taken internally, Thieves Vitality essential oil can help support overall wellness and includes powerful antioxidants.*

Use Thieves essential oil:

  • To refresh musty carpets. Combine 5 drops of Thieves with 1 cup of baking soda and let the mixture sit overnight. Sprinkle over carpets and allow to sit for 10–15 minutes before vacuuming.
  • To eliminate odor. Add a few drops of Thieves essential oil blend to your dishwasher before running.
  • To create an environment of peace and security. Diffuse wherever you need its comforting aroma.

Use Thieves Vitality:

  • As a supplement. Add 1–2 drops to a vegetarian gel capsule and take daily or as needed.
  • For flavor. Swirl in a drop to your morning juice, tea, or NingXia Red®.

PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

Active component: menthol

Invigorate your senses with Peppermint’s aroma or enjoy its cooling sensation on your skin. A key ingredient in PanAway®, AromaEase®, Deep Relief™ Roll-On, and other blends, Peppermint combines beautifully with other aromas.

Peppermint Vitality tastes delicious and supports healthy habits. It can support gastrointestinal system comfort, healthy bowel function, normal digestion, enhance healthy gut function, and maintain the digestive tract’s efficiency.* Plus, it may support performance during exercise!*

Use Peppermint essential oil:

  • For post-workout massage. Dilute a few drops of Peppermint in V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex for a refreshing massage.
  • To diffuse. Blend with Lavender and Rosemary for an uplifting aroma.
  • In your bath or shower. Blend Peppermint and Eucalyptus Radiata in hot bath water and breathe in the aromatic steam. You can also add Peppermint to shampoo for a scalp-stimulating wash!
  • In your cleaning routine. Add to DIY cleaners or add a few drops to a sponge for a refreshing, clean scent.

Use Peppermint Vitality:

  • As a supplement. Add 1–2 drops to a vegetarian gel capsule and take as needed.
  • For flavor. Add a drop to a glass of water or blend with your pre-workout drink (this mint-chocolate protein shake tastes like dessert) for an energizing start before you hit the gym.
  • In the kitchen. Flavor desserts—and even some main dishes—with a drop or two of Peppermint Vitality!

CEDARWOOD ESSENTIAL OIL

Naturally occurring constituents are high in sesquiterpenes

When it comes to essential oil powerhouses, you can’t get much better than Cedarwood. With uses ranging from your beauty routine to your outdoor space, Cedarwood’s versatility makes it a key part of any EO collection.

Use Cedarwood essential oil:

  • To deter pests. Create an all-natural outdoor spray with Cedarwood and Lemongrass, Rosemary, or Citronella in a glass spray bottle full of distilled water.
  • In your skin care. A drop or two in your moisturizer gets you the skin-cleansing and moisturizing properties of this oil all in one go! Even better, Cedarwood is a great addition to any lotion, not just your face cream! Add it to a thick and yummy body butter or your regular hand lotion for extra moisture.
  • As part of a relaxing routine. Put a few drops on your pillow before bedtime to breathe in its warm, soothing scent as you drift off to sleep.
  • For your scalp. Add a few drops to your shampoo or conditioner every day to support the appearance of healthy hair.

FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

Naturally occurring constituents: alpha-pinene, limonene, sabinene, beta caryophyllene

Frankincense often appears on lists of must-have essential oils, and for good reason! This ancient oil does it all, including taking care of your skin, creating a grounding environment for your spiritual practices, and so much more.

Want to know what centuries of tradition taste like? Use Frankincense Vitality! With a flavor that is complex and unmistakable, Frankincense Vitality is a sweet, woodsy, and slightly citrusy complement to virtually any dish.

Use Frankincense essential oil:

  • To ground yourself. Diffuse anytime, especially during meditation or yoga, to invite an elevated spiritual experience.
  • For massage. Soothe sore muscles after activity with a palmful of V-6 and several drops of Frankincense.
  • To highlight natural beauty. A few drops of Frankincense in your moisturizer or night cream may help promote healthy-looking skin.

Use Frankincense Vitality essential oil:

  • In your green smoothie. A drop or two of Frankincense Vitality brings a lot to your morning smoothie’s flavor.
  • As a supplement. Put two drops in a vegetarian capsule, and take up to three times daily to support healthy immune function.*
  • To hydrate. Add a few drops to your glass or metal water bottle. We promise your life will never be the same after you taste this unique and hydrating combo.

LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

Naturally occurring constituents: linalyl acetate, linalool, and ocimene

A popular scent for everything from candles to face cream, Lavender is equal parts fresh, floral, and calm—which is why Lavender essential oil is one of the biggest workhorses in your EO stash.

Take the benefits of Lavender even further with Lavender Vitality! Nothing turns a dish from basic to gourmet like a splash of floral flavor.

Use Lavender essential oil:

  • To relax. Make bath salts with a calming scent by putting four drops of Lavender in one cup of Epsom salt. Or use Lavender with a little bit of carrier oil for a soothing massage.
  • For personal care. A drop or two of Lavender will enhance any beauty product. Lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and moisturizer all get an upgrade with this oil’s classic scent.
  • At bedtime. Diffuse next to your bed to create a calm atmosphere perfect for winding down.

Use Lavender Vitality essential oil:

  • In savory dishes. Dip a toothpick in Lavender and swirl through marinades, sauces, soups, and more. Balance the flavor with herbs like thyme and rosemary.
  • To complement sweets. Making homemade jam? Infuse it with a few drops of Lavender for a unique flavor. Baking a cake? Add a drop of this sweet floral oil to the batter.

Essential oils for dogs: Pawsome tips for your furry friend

Sep 26th, 2019 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

First and most important: Dogs are highly sensitive to essential oils. What smells like the faintest hint of Lavender to you might smell like 100 acres of lavender botanicals to little Beethoven. Gradually introduce oils by using them on yourself first. Acting as a human diffuser keeps all those new scents from overpowering your pup.

If you’re the proud owner of new puppy, patience is a virtue. Fur reals. Avoid using topical oils on newborn dogs. For medium- or large-breed puppies, wait until they’re over 8 weeks old. For toy or small-breed puppies, wait until they are over 10 weeks old.

Once you start applying essential oils, pay close attention to Lulu’s behavior. Remember, she wants to be near you and will stay by your side even if she’s feeling uncomfortable. Contrary to popular animated films, pets can’t tell us if something is working or not. Please exercise caution—use oils on that loveable lapdog safely and responsibly.

Go for the glow with a DIY steam facial

Sep 16th, 2019 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Instructions

1. If you’re using dried rose petals or lavender, sprinkle it in the bottom of your silicone molds. Set aside.

2. Add 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup citric acid to a glass bowl and mix well with a wire whisk.

3. Add essential oils to dry ingredients. Mix until completely blended.

4. Add 2-3 tablespoons of witch hazel to a spray bottle. Spray surface of the mixture and stir. Repeat spraying and stirring until mixture resembles and feels like damp sand. You know it’s good to go when you can shape it into a ball, but it falls apart easily.

YL tip: If the mixture ends up too moist, add more baking soda and citric acid until you get the right consistency.

5. Put the mixture into silicone molds. Press firmly with the back of a spoon or your fingers. The mixture will expand, so leave a small lip (about 1/4 of the mold) at the top.

6. Allow facial steamers time to dry completely—anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on your home’s humidity. Pop steamers out of molds.

YL tip: If they refuse to pop, they need more time to dry!
