A Savory Einkorn Breakfast to Start the Day Right

Sep 15th, 2014 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Chaotic mornings often lead us to either wolf down an unhealthy breakfast or skip the meal altogether, but neither will give your body the pep you need to make it through your day! In my last post, I shared a few tips to support energy and mental focus throughout the day, and today I offer my final suggestion—a delicious and fortifying morning meal, so you can start off on the right foot.

To create a recipe that is low in gluten and provides both fiber and protein, I have integrated Gary’s True Grit Einkorn Spaghetti into a savory breakfast. You can cook fresh spaghetti or use leftover spaghetti from a previous meal.

Ingredients:

½ box of Gary’s True Grit Einkorn Spaghetti, precooked

2 handfuls of organic baby spinach

1 ½ cups cherry tomatoes, halved

5 cloves roasted garlic, chopped

¾ cup chicken stock

3–4 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon ground flax

4 drops Basil Essential Oil

3 drops Lemon Essential Oil

2–3 eggs

Salt and pepper to taste

Serves 2

  1. In a large saucepan, combine garlic, flaxseed, olive oil, and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring continuously.
  2. Add spinach and tomatoes to saucepan and cook until tomatoes become tender.
  3. Drop Basil and Lemon essential oils into the pan and mix thoroughly.*
  4. Place the cooked spaghetti directly into the pan and stir until all the pasta has been integrated into the sauce. Once pasta becomes warm, remove from heat.
  5. In a separate pan, cook eggs as desired (over easy or poached is recommended). Divide pasta onto two plates and place the eggs on top of each serving.

Voila! You now have a unique, simple, and satisfying way to start the morning. This recipe can be customized too—simply swap out the vegetables for your own take on this easy-to-make breakfast.

We would love to hear how you have incorporated the new Einkorn products into your favorite recipes. Leave us a comment and share your newest meal idea with us!

In our last blog post, we challenged members to share their tips for staying sharp during the back-to-school season. Our randomly selected winners are: CassieK, Distributor; Sammye L., Senior Star; and Linda D., Distributor. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who participated!

* Although heating essential oils may diminish their beneficial properties, the oils used in this recipe are for flavor only. If desired, you may add the essential oils after the spaghetti is already warmed.

5 Quick Tips for Mental Sharpness

Sep 11th, 2014 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

For many, this time of year can be hectic and exhausting. Between juggling busy school schedules, meeting deadlines, and everything else on your plate, having a sharp mind to stay on top of it all is crucial. I’m excited to share five practices I have recently discovered that support my mental focus and increase my energy levels:

1. Before going to sleep, I slice ¼ of a cucumber and add the slices to 12 ounces of water, then leave it in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, I add a few drops of Citrus Fresh essential oil blend to the cucumber-infused water and drink it within 10 minutes of waking. I’ve discovered that drinking this refreshing beverage at the start of my day uplifts and wakens my body systems—after all, the brain’s functions are dependent on proper hydration!

2. Every day I try to take 15 minutes to calm my mind and focus my thoughts. Meditation can be as simple as sitting quietly or concentrating on your breathing.  Meditation has been practiced for centuries and is known for unique benefits such as increased awareness, decreased stress levels, and heightened mental clarity. I often diffuse Clarity essential oil blend or Peppermint essential oil to enhance my reflection time.

3. Sometime around my midday meal, I like to take advantage of a few cognition-supporting supplements. NingXia Nitro is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up, full of beneficial ingredients like D-Ribose and Korean ginseng extract. I also like to give my mind an extra boost with MindWise, Young Living’s new advanced brain wellness serum. Providing generous amounts of vitamin D, CoQ10, ALCAR, and GPC, MindWise is my go-to supplement for supporting my mind and memory.*

4. In addition to stimulating multiple areas of the brain, music helps minimize background noise and distractions. I have found classical music to be my ultimate distraction reducer. Whether I am at work, completing household chores, or simply relaxing, listening to my favorite composers keeps my mind motivated and engaged.

I’ll share my fifth tip with a special recipe on Monday, September 15, so be sure to visit the blog again soon! Until then, leave a comment with your tips for staying sharp and alert during the back-to-school season, and you’ll be automatically entered to win a free bottle of MindWise! Three winners will be randomly selected and announced in my September 15 post. Good luck!

  • Good tips! Especially the ones to calm your mind. Makes a huge difference in how your day goes.

  • Thanks for the tips! I find that getting plenty of sleep is the biggest factor for me in keeping my mind sharp during the day. I am also looking forward to getting my first shipment of NingXia next week to add to that routine!

  • To stay sharp and alert, I have one of the USB Diffusers in my vehicle and heavy equipment that I operate. I diffuse a combination of Purification and Peppermint. The Purification helps eliminate the odors of diesel, etc while in the heavy equipment and the Peppermint helps keep me alert. I also use Cedarwood at night time to help me get a good nights rest and in the am when I get up I drink 1 oz of Ningxia Red.

  • I FORCE myself to go to bed at a good time; I can always tell if I haven’t eaten–so I try to make sure that I’ve given my body ( my mind) fuel; if I know that it’s going to be a long, busy day with getting home late due to ballgames or whatever, I slip Peppermint in my purse (it seems to make the most difference for me when I put it at the back of my neck); and I try to rest (even if it’s for 10 mins in my vehicle waiting for kids to get out of school). Resting is a big factor for me as well. Thanks for all these tips!

  • I diffuse peppermint and rosemary in the morning of homeschooling. It helps everyone be more awake and learning.

  • Wake up, shower and massage my scalp with rosemary while it is wet. Drink lemon in my water all day long. Diffuse lemon and peppermint in my USB diffuser! Thank you for these oils!

  • I sip lemon and grapefruit oil in my water all day long. I sniff peppermint or add it to my wrists about mid afternoon. I will have to try it on the back of my neck as suggested in the other comments.

Keeping Your Mind Sharp with Essential Oils

Sep 8th, 2014 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Ever get the afternoon doldrums? I usually hit a stretch in the late afternoon when I need a little extra energy to get through the rest of the day. I’ve found that inhaling essential oils directly from the bottle gives me a boost and helps clear my mind. I frequently inhale Peppermint and diffuse Jade Lemon from the Exotic Oils Collection. Adding Roller Fitments to neat or diluted bottles of oil also provides me with a quick and easy way to apply oils to my wrists, behind my ears, or even on the bottoms of my feet, where I find application to be the most effective.

Whether you are at work, school, or doing afternoon homework, there are numerous ways that using essential oils can help wake you up and refresh your mind. Here are a few oils perfect for an afternoon lift:

Pick-me-up Essential Oils

Clarity Builders

This Month We Pay Tribute to D. Gary and Mary Young, Pioneers of the Modern Essential Oil Movement

Sep 4th, 2014 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Gary and Mary Young - Young Living FoundersRecords dating back to 4,500 BC describe the use of aromatic substances to promote physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. Despite this long history of use, the modern use and research of essential oils didn’t begin until the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The modern resurgence of essential oil use is due to the dedicated work of many important trailblazers. By creating Young Living Essential Oils in 1994, D. Gary and Mary Young became pioneers in bringing the power of essential oils to the forefront of the wellness movement and have given hundreds of thousands of individuals the opportunity to find wellness, purpose, and abundance.

6 Natural Remedies for Nausea

Aug 28th, 2014 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Almost everyone gets a queasy stomach once in a while, whether it’s motion sickness from a car or rollercoaster, morning sickness from pregnancy, a symptom of an illness, or a side effect of medications. Lucky for us, there are some simple natural remedies that can help. Here are a few tips:

  • Avoid Triggers. Pay attention to what causes nausea, and mentally mark them as “triggers” to avoid.
  • Try to avoid bothersome odors such as perfume, smoke, or certain cooking smells. Get plenty of fresh air. Using an essential oil or blend like AromaEase™ to block bothersome odors can also be refreshing and relaxing.
  • Ginger is a popular natural remedy for quelling queasiness. Look for ginger ale made with real ginger or add a little ginger to a glass of water.
  • Try sipping peppermint tea, especially after eating. Peppermint or ginger-flavored lozenges may also help.
  • If you suffer from motion sickness, optimize your position to reduce motion or motion perception. For example, driving a vehicle instead of riding in it, sitting in the front seat of a car or bus, or sitting over the wing of an aircraft.

Essential oils are also a great way to help calm and soothe the body. Peppermint, for example, has been used traditionally to support normal digestion.* Spearmint also supports digestion* and brings feelings of calm. Young Living’s new essential oil blend AromaEase™ contains essential oils to help soothe occasional stress. Diffuse, breathe in directly from the bottle, or apply topically to help support healthy energy flow and vitality.

Use any of these suggestions to help you with your queasy quandary!
