Throughout the ages, frankincense has been treasured for its medicinal and spiritual qualities. It was valued more than gold in ancient times, and only those with great wealth and abundance possessed it. There are more than a dozen species of Boswellia trees, commonly called frankincense trees, yet one species reigns supreme: Boswellia sacra of Omani origin.

For nearly 5,000 years, the resin from the Boswellia tree was considered Arabia’s most precious commodity. The allure of frankincense enticed adventurers from afar who sought the irresistible resin, and the Frankincense Trail in Oman’s Dhofar region was purportedly visited by the notable explorers Marco Polo and Lawrence of Arabia.

The finest and most highly prized frankincense resin is produced by the Boswellia sacra species, which grows in Oman. Oman has a reputation for producing superior-quality frankincense trees that deliver the highest-grade resin, the resin reserved for royalty. Historical and archaeological evidence strongly suggest that the frankincense given to the Christ child was either the prized Boswellia carteri species, of African origin, or the more highly prized Boswellia sacra, of Arabian origin.

The historical evidence combined with the superior phytochemical profile and therapeutic values of these two species were key factors behind Young Living’s selection of them for our prized frankincense products: frankincense and sacred frankincense. Moreover, Young Living is proud of the singular opportunity we have to be the first commercial frankincense distiller in Oman in hundreds of years.

Today, frankincense trees in the Dhofar region of Oman are regarded as a gift from God, and those whose land they grow on are considered exceedingly blessed. Oman is the greenest and most fertile land on the Arabian Peninsula. Its peculiar climatic and geological and geographical conditions (warm winters, steady sun, limestone soil with deposits of calcium carbonate, and cooling monsoon winds) provide the ideal conditions for the Boswellia sacra trees to produce the finest resin in the world. In her book Frankincense: Oman’s Gift to the World, Juliet Highet compares frankincense trees from other regions, concluding that “no other trees produce the same pure, exalted fragrance” as those found in Dhofar.

In preparation for the groundbreaking presentation “Frankincense: Separating Fact from Fallacy,” Young Living researchers conducted a thorough review of all available scientific literature on the topic of three frankincense species: Boswellia sacra, Boswellia carteri, and Boswellia frereana, including all 11 USDA references to Boswellia frereana. None of the 11 references reported that Boswellia frereana grows in or was ever cultivated in Oman. We invite you to review the references for yourself.

Our research, combined with existing scientific and historical literature, suggests that Boswellia sacra truly is a precious gift, worthy of legend status. Moreover, Young Living is proud of the singular opportunity we have to be the first commercial frankincense distiller in Oman in hundreds of years.

We at Young Living Essential Oils invite you to experience the unique, spiritual properties of our highly-prized sacred frankincense of true Omani origin.

The Slique Kit tackles the nutrition side, now it is time to look at exercise. This week, we will be focusing on one of the essential activities for healthy weight management: Cardio. Choose one of the following exercises to do each day to enhance your transformation.

• Walk for 30 minutes per day
• Run for 30 minutes per day
• Bike for 30 minutes per day

Change it up! By using a variety of cardio exercises we avoid the monotony we may feel when exercising. Wherever possible, avoid treadmills and stationary bikes. Get out into the world, use different routes for a change in scenery, and enjoy your exercise routine!

In addition to exercise, eating healthy is crucial to successful weight management. The recipe below provides a light, healthy alternative to unhealthy snacks that will support your Slique transformation and on the path to changing your diet for the better!

Butternut Soup

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 onions, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 lbs butternut squash, peeled cubed
4 cups vegetable broth
2 drops clove
3 drops nutmeg
1 drop cinnamon bark
Salt
Pepper

In soup pan, sauté onions, garlic, salt pepper in olive oil over medium heat until tender. Add cubed squash and cook for 3-5 minutes. Next, add broth and bring to a boil. Boil on medium-high heat for 25 minutes or until squash is fork tender. Remove from heat. Using a hand mixer, puree until smooth. Stir in oils. Allow oils to infuse into soup for 5-8 minutes and then serve. Soup can be garnished with a spoonful of yogurt.

Makes about 5 ½ cups

Don’t forget to share your ideas, success stories, and motivations that keep you on track with the rest of the Young Living family!

Hummus with Young Living lemon essential oil invites the sun to shine and warm up the season. This delicious snack satisfies my appetite and helps me commit to eating lighter fare.

I wrote a simple poem about the pitfalls of weather-induced overeating and would like to share it with you:

I find it easy to eat light
When the weather is bright,
But when the rains pour,
It’s the cravings to watch for!

I stock up on healthy foods, so when temptation comes, I am prepared.

Happy Eating!

Chef Mandy

Their powerful, potent, and immediate effects never cease to amaze me! This past week I had the honor of once again teaching doctors, nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and other medical staff of UCLA Health Systems the Essential Oils Therapy component of the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy (UZIT) Program. Fashion designer, long-time yogini, philanthropist, and Young Living enthusiast Donna Karan founded the UZIT program.

In the UZIT training, participants are encouraged to become personally acquainted with the nine oils of the Everyday Oils™ kit, which include one of Young Living’s signature blends—and Donna’s favorite—Thieves®.

Known as the immune system’s protective shield, Thieves is one of the best essential oils to use for self-care. It is a blend of cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lemon, and rosemary. The participants who happened to be feeling under the weather were amazed with how well they felt after using Thieves. One nurse even forgot she had a sore throat after only two applications!

I personally use Thieves in one form or another every day, whether it is my Thieves toothpaste and floss or my Thieves Foaming Hand Soap. I use Thieves Household Cleaner to clean the floors of my studio and my yoga mats—and of course I use Thieves essential oil blend. I love putting a few drops in my drinking water and sipping it throughout the day. After all these years, my excitement about Thieves is greater than ever.

Stay healthy and use Thieves every day!

Namaste,

Tracy Griffiths

Namaste,

I named a few factors that may hinder our success (family, health, work, energy level, etc.). What about those of us whose excuses aren’t centered on motivation?

Emotional, spiritual, and health concerns—past or present—can put extra weight on your shoulders and keep you from the happiness you deserve. Although the Slique™ Challenge focuses on weight, it also goes hand-in-hand with Young Living’s mantra of wellness, purpose, and abundance. We need to find a balance to overcome the issues we have and to keep our lives on track. Supplementing the Slique kit with other all-natural products may be required for your individual concerns. Here are a few products that can help you climb over barriers, knock down walls, and lift the weight off your shoulders to have a real chance for true success.

Frankincense essential oil adds a new dynamic to your Slique kit by increasing your inner strength and keeping you emotionally and spiritually in line with your weight-management goals.

RutaVaLa™ essential oil blend, combined with your daily Slique kit products, may soothe the tension and stressful moments holding you back and promote relaxation for your body and mind throughout the day.

Forgiveness™ essential oil blend helps you overcome negative inner emotions. By including this blend with your Slique regimen, you will have the needed support to move past the hindering effects of negative past experiences.

Additional Young Living products for emotional support include Release™, Acceptance™, Feelings™ collection, and sacred frankincense.

I invite all of you to share which oils have helped you through your tough times and which oils you use with your Slique kit.

Did you know that your pets are extremely sensitive and aware of your mood and emotions? I know many pet owners who have experienced times of sadness or anxiousness, and then suddenly their beloved cat or dog comes to them as if to help ease their woes. So what do you do when your furry friends are upset, anxious, or jittery? Consider using Young Living essential oils to help.

As suggested in the Essential Oils Desk Reference, “If you have a high-spirited, jittery animal, apply Peace Calming® and/or Valor® on yourself first. As you approach the animal, it will react as it perceives the aroma. Kneel down or squat beside the animal and remain still for several minutes so that it can become accustomed to the smell. As the animal breathes in the fragrances, it will become calmer and easier to manage.”

For this post I wanted to share a portion of a protocol Gary Young demonstrated on a young horse at the Young Living farm in St. Maries, Idaho.

Gary showed us how essential oils assisted in calming a young stallion as it prepared for a training session. First, Gary applied a few drops of Valor on his hands; he then put one hand on the base of the horse’s tail and the other on its withers.

Gary explained that relaxation is the first step to healing. He suggested applying Trauma Life™, Surrender™, or Peace Calming™ on your hands and then briefly holding your hands up to the animal’s muzzle or nostrils. As the animal relaxes, Gary explained, work your hand around the side of its jaw and up along the neckline to its ears, and then rub its ears and top of its head.

As the horse relaxed even more deeply, Gary added more oils to the palm of his hand, and the horse inhaled the oils very willingly. Gary continued rubbing the horse’s ears, head, and neck.

I have been working with essential oils and humans for more than 12 years now, but I was truly blown away when I saw how this horse completely transformed from being jumpy and edgy into becoming soft and relaxed!

If you have an anxious pet—or if you are feeling anxious yourself—I suggest using Valor, Peace Calming, RutaVaLa™, or lavender on yourself. Then gently pet your dog or cat, and see if you both start feeling more relaxed and happy.

Namaste,

It’s usually about this time many people begin to wander from their resolutions and goals. Factors can include family time, health, work, and energy level, but we need to ask ourselves if these are legitimate concerns or just excuses. I often find myself letting my laziness justify my excuses, especially when my goals are not always on my mind. If we aren’t seeing the results we thought we would, we need to evaluate the situation to see if we are the ones holding ourselves back. Looking at ourselves from within, do we see someone who is looking for easy solutions or someone willing to do what it takes, no matter how difficult it may seem?

Sure, we may be diligently enjoying the Slique kit, eating better, and exercising regularly, but if we’re not getting the results we want, it may feel empty like we’re just going through the motions. This type of approach brings emotional barriers that keep us from our reachable goals. We begin to lack motivation, drive, and determination, and it’s up to each of us to overcome this mentality and eliminate these excuses. Luckily I have a few product suggestions for this problem.

Motivation™ essential oil is perfect before and after daily exercise to assist with moments of procrastination and laziness by promoting feelings of action and accomplishment.

Highest Potential™ essential oil should be included throughout the day to uplift and inspire yourself and boost your self-confidence.

Hope™ essential oil allows you to get back on track by reconnecting with your feelings of strength and stability in those moments where you feel you may have wandered from your goals.

Additional products: Valor®, Magnify Your Purpose™, Joy™, and En-R-Gee™

What oils help push you through your moments of laziness and procrastination? Share below.
Let’s recommit ourselves to our goals and be stay tuned for Part Two on this series.

I am sure you are all excited to hear the results of our Slique™ Essence product blog giveaway. Before announcing the winners, I wanted to extend a thank you to everyone who left a comment. I love getting to know you more through our interactions!

Congratulations to Robin Ashley and Joy Hardin for being randomly selected to receive a free bottle of Young Living’s Slique Essence essential oil blend. Here’s what they had to say about Slique Essence:

“I am a new distributor and have only been with Young Living for two months. My husband and I are both having a blast with the oils! I sure hope it isn’t possible to OD on them because we use them head to toe. I have been searching the Internet as well as the Essential Oils Desk Reference to find out all the possible uses for each oil. The results we have had in this short time have been amazing, and I look forward to the long-term effects. I just placed a large order, and unfortunately the Slique oil is not available on my site. I asked my sponsor about it and she didn’t even know Slique Essence existed, so I sent her the blog info. I am anxious to try this oil because it is obvious that Young Living only produces superior products that work. I have a very special event coming up in October, so shedding some excess weight by then would make me so happy.”

“I have been using Slique Essence for three weeks now. I love the taste and I love to add it to my Slique Tea for added flavor! I am pumped about the Slique Challenge for weight loss. I have lost ten pounds so far, am eating and living a healthier lifestyle, and feel great! Everyone who has smelled my bottle of Slique Essence has loved the scent. That spearmint taste is great. I also add it to my drinking water throughout the day. I rub it on my thighs and hips to help with trouble spots. Go Slique! Go Young Living!”
—Joy Hardin, Michigan

Join me in congratulating Robin and Joy. Also, it looks like Robin, being a new distributor, could use some product suggestions. Let’s help her out!
